In honor of the Blackhawks’ season kicking off and because I had the transportation and money needed to buy paint, I made a Blackhawks canvas on Saturday.
- 8×10 inch canvas board
- Paint brushes & a cup for water
- Pencil & eraser
- Clip Art Logo (ReallyColor.com)
Once again I started on Pinterest and then modified what I saw to be what I wanted. The first pin that I liked was this one: (Click here to see pin)
The second was this one: (Click here to see pin)
What I ended up doing was neither of them. I used an 8×10 inch canvas board to paint the Blackhawk logo with black, white, and red stripes behind it. To help me draw the logo I printed the coloring page from ReallyColor.com. I cut it out to make the initial outline and used it as a guideline for the remaining lines.
I only outlined where black paint would go first. This was because the black outlines everything and I found it easier that way. Once it was outlined I painted the black areas black and drew in the rest of the outline.
Then I began to fill in the outline with the rest of the paint colors. Because my canvas board got a little dirty when I moved into my dorm, I made sure to use white paint on any white parts of the logo.
After finishing the logo completely I shifted my focus to the background, which I wanted to make like the stripes of the Blackhawks’ jerseys. To begin I totally eyeballed the black line that I wanted in the middle. I asked my roommate a few times if the line was straight and even on both sides. If you wanted, you could measure it out and use a ruler to draw straight lines.
From there I painted the red chunks on the top and bottom of the canvas. Again, I eyeballed it. I knew that I would need another coat of red because I was using paint that had thickened over time. This is where I called it a night on Saturday (after the Blackhawks won their game).
Then Sunday I painted the white stripes, gave another coat to the red stripes, and did general touch-ups all around. So, this is the final product! (I scanned the canvas board hoping that it would give the best color representation) While it’s not perfect, for someone who has not taken an art class since 8th grade, I’m proud of it.
So there it is, my Blackhawks Canvas! My dorm room now has another piece of home. Always feel free to comment with questions or show off your own work!
